My family and I went out to celebrate my sister's birthday this past week. I couldn't quite figure out what to get her, so I thought a gift card was just the answer (though I'm not too keen on giving gift carts - they're so impersonal). So, I needed an idea of how to present her gift in a more exciting way than a regular, everyday card. She's very much into fashion, so I took that into account, and here's what I came up with...
A few people have requested directions for the box, and I hope it makes sense to you guys. Here we go...
Box Bottom: 12x12 paper, scored at 4" and 8" - turn your paper 90 degrees and score again. Cut the four outer edges. The polka-dot paper layers are cut at 3 3/4 x 3 3/4. I rounded all the corners with a corner punch.
Box Lid: 7x7 paper, scored at 1 1/2" and 5 1/2" - turn your paper 90 degrees and score again. To make it easier to put your sides together, cut a small slit on outer edges.
Cake: I used a DS cut file for the cake - I can't remember where I got it, but I'll be glad to send it to you if you e-mail me. It is totally doable WITHOUT DS or a G with paper strips and circles, so if you need help with that, let me know.
Cake Decor: I cut a strip at a little shorter than 1" and punched it with a MS edger punch. The shoe on top was cut at 1" for my very fashionable sister :)
Gift Card Holder: I got out my driver's licence (seriously! :)) to measure the size of the gift card. I cut a rectangle that would fit perfectly all the way around. For the tab that closes, I cut a rectangle at 1 1/2", taped it to the back and made a small slit on the front to insert it. I figured when I closed the box, the gift card might slide out, so I cut another rectangle at 1" and taped it to hold on the side that would be facing down when the box was closed.
